"Brasil" is a pop-rock song written and performed by Cazuza, recorded as the sixth track in his third solo album Ideologia (1988). The most well-known version of this song was recorded as a samba by Gal Costa on the soundtrack album of the telenovela Vale Tudo (1988).

Song information

The lyrics of "Brasil" were composed by Cazuza and Nilo Romero, and the music by George Israel (saxophone player of Kid Abelha). The song expresses an anti-nationalist feeling and a pessimist view on the Brazilian lifestyle and "way to handle things" (the famous "jeitinho brasileiro"). Although the song was featured on the soundtrack of Vale Tudo, a Rede Globo telenovela, it criticized the popular fascination with the network's newsmagazine program Fantástico.

Lyrics

Original Lyric in portuguese Translate
Não me convidaram They didn't invited me
Pra esta festa pobre To this poor party
Que os homens armaram Wich men armed
Pra me convencer To convince me c
A pagar sem ver To pay without seeing
Toda essa droga All this shit
Que já vem malhada That already comes spot
Antes de eu nascer... Before I was born...
Não me ofereceram They didn't even offered me
Nem um cigarro Even a cigarret
Fiquei na porta I stayed in the door
Estacionando os carros Parking the cars
Não me elegeram They didn't elected me
Chefe de nada Boss of nothing
O meu cartão de crédito My credit card
É uma navalha... Is a razor...
Brasil! Brazil!
Mostra tua cara Show your face
Quero ver quem paga I wanna see who is denied
Pra gente ficar assim To we stay like this
Brasil! Brazil!
Qual é o teu negócio? What's your business?
O nome do teu sócio? Your boss' name?
Confia em mim... Trust me...
Não me sortearam They didn't raffled me
A garota do Fantástico Fantástico's girl
Não me subornaram They dind't bribed me
Será que é o meu fim? Is this my end?
Ver TV a cores To watch TV in colors
Na taba de um índio On an indian's table
Programada Programed
Prá só dizer "sim, sim" To just say `yes, yes´
Grande pátria Great motherland
Desimportante Unimportant
Em nenhum instante At no time
Eu vou te trair I'll double-cross you
Não, não vou te trair... No, I won't double-cross you...
